Factory reset via rapid power cycling
Recovery (Factory Reset via Power Cycling)
PwnPower supports a power-cycle recovery gesture to wipe configuration (NVS) and scan data, then reboot clean.
How it works
- On each boot, firmware increments a small counter stored in NVS.
- If the device stays powered for roughly 10 seconds, the counter is cleared automatically.
- If the counter reaches the threshold (default: 5 quick power cycles), both NVS and the scan data partition are erased, then the device restarts.
Triggering a reset
- Power the device on, let it start for 1–2 seconds.
- Power off for ~1–2 seconds.
- Repeat on/off until you reach 5 total power-ons within ~10 seconds.
- On the 5th boot, the device erases NVS and the scan data partition, then restarts to factory defaults.
Notes
- The 10s window is measured by uptime while powered on (not by wall clock while off).
- If the reset does not trigger, slow down/off periods may be too long; keep each on/off around 1–2 seconds and complete 5 cycles within ~10s.
- If you see repeated reboots right after reaching the threshold, ensure you allow the device to stay on for >10s after the reset to clear the counter.
