Background Scanning
Run periodic AP/STA scans in the background and review long-term history charts.
Background Scanning
Background Scanning lets your device run periodic Wi-Fi scans and save results over time so you can track trends, not just live snapshots.
- AP Scan: Periodic access-point discovery.
- STA Scan: Periodic station/client discovery.
- History View: Saved samples are grouped and shown in charts.
Before You Start
- Insert an SD card if you want scan history saved over time.
- Keep the device powered while background scanning is enabled.
- Connect the device to Wi-Fi for the most accurate date/time on charts.
How to Use
- Open the web interface and go to the Wi-Fi section.
- Enable Background Scanning.
- Set your scan intervals.
- Leave the device running.
- Open History to review activity over time.
Reading the Charts
- Newer entries display in your local date/time format.
- Older history may appear as approximate time if it was recorded before clock sync was available.
- If no reliable clock is available yet, labels may appear as relative uptime (
T+...).
Best Practices
- Use intervals of 5-10 minutes for normal monitoring.
- Use shorter intervals only when you need higher detail.
- Keep enough free space on the SD card for long-term logging.
- Let scans run for at least a few hours before evaluating trends.
Troubleshooting
- No history appears: Confirm an SD card is inserted and recognized.
- History is outdated: Make sure Background Scanning is enabled and the device has stayed powered on.
- Time labels look odd: Connect the device to Wi-Fi and allow a few minutes for clock correction.
- Not enough data: Wait longer so more scan points are collected.
